Virginia Imbiorski

Virginia D. Imbiorski, 90, Michigan City, IN, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2010 at 8:26 a.m. in The Arbors of Michigan City.

She was born September 7, 1919 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Frank and Pauline (Wozniak) Barkowski.  On November 9, 1940 in East Chicago, IN she married Stephen Imbiorski who preceded her on March 17, 1988.

Surviving are  2 daughters, Sandra (Reggie) Czizek of Michigan City, Indiana, and Claudia Szymaszek of Hammond, IN; a son, Timothy Imbiorski of Denver, CO;  6 grandchildren, Darrel, Darrin, and Darrick Czizek, Michael (Janet) Szymaszek, Mark (Angie) Szymaszek, and Renae (Kevin) Brumfield;  9 great-grandchildren, D.J., Brittany, Tyler, Mike, Nicole, Kyle, Jacob, Justine, and Janelle;  and 4 great-great-granchildren, Trey, Evan, Ryan, Anthony.

She was preceded in death by granddaughter, Kelley Czizek; son-in-law, Tom Szymaszek; a sister Martha and 4 brothers, Harry, Clem, Henry, and Donald.

She retired as a clerk from Jupiter Department Store.

She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and a volunteer at the Michigan City Senior Center. She enjoyed being with her family.

Jackie Hudson

Jackie A. Hudson, 58, Fish Lake, Indiana, passed away July 28, 2010 at 9:19 a.m. in his home.

He was born July 6, 1952 in El Paso, Texas to the late Gilbert L. and Izetta (McGraw) Hudson, Sr.

Surviving are a daughter, Kim (Marion) Erwin of Atwood, IL; son, James (Margaret) Hudson of Baltimore, MD;  2 brothers, Johnnie (Gwen) Hudson of LaPorte, IN, and Herman Hudson of Indiana;  2 sisters, Linda (Jervis) Jenks and Faye (John, III) Seppyes. both of Michigan City, IN;  10 grandchildren, Cassidy, Hanna, Zachari, and Addi Mae Erwin, James Jr., Brice, Cade, Ethan, Alexis, and Bo Hudson; a special friend, Beth Jimerson of LaPorte, IN; and his beloved pet, Sonny.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sarah Hudson and a brother, Gilbert L. Hudson, Jr.

He was a Security Guard for Securitas Security Services having spent the last 5 years at Howmet. He attended St. Paul Lutheran Church in Michigan City, IN and volunteered in their soup kitchen. He enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Helen Meyers

Helen "Fern" Meyers, 101, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2010  in The Arbors of Michigan City.

She was born July 15, 1909 in Florence, Kansas  to  the late John R. & Mary Ann (Carr) Hayes Fogarty.  On June 28, 1936 in Michigan City she married Kenneth "Jack" Harding, who preceded her in 1953.  On August 7, 1959 in Michigan City, she married Robert S. "Bob" Meyers, who preceded her on June 27, 1986.

Surviving are  3 Nieces, Judy Grabarek of South Bend, Donna  (Tim) Allen and  Gail (Robert) Childers both of Michigan City;  Nephew, Len Foldenauer of Vian, OK;  Numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews.

She was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Edward, Frank and John R. Fogarty, 1 sister, Kate Foldenauer and 2  nephews, John Foldenauer & Tom Grabarek.
 
She worked as a bookkeeper for Michigan City Ice House and as a clerk for Walgreen's. Member of Queen of All Saints Catholic Church. Fern was an avid gardener, who loved flowers, and was famous for her red geraniums.  She loved animals and her cars and was famous for her Easter egg hunts in her back yard.   She played a wild game of ping-pong and loved to dance; she also enjoyed music, roller-skating, fishing with her husband Bob at their cottage in Fennville, Michigan and attended Masonic Lodge Conventions with her first husband, Kenneth "Jack"Harding.  She truly enjoyed the friendship of her neighbors.  Fern's energy was contagious for everyone around her.  We were blessed to know her and have her as our "Aunt Fern".

William Graff

William J. Graff, 86, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Friday, July 23, 2010 at 6:08 am in St. Anthony Memorial, Michigan City.

He was born March 20, 1924 in Porter County, Indiana to  the late John J. and Stella (Yagelski) Graff. On October 29, 1949 in Michigan City, he married  Eleanor J. Pasula, who survives Michigan City.

Also surviving are his children: Kathleen (Stephen) Scholl of Duneland Beach, IN, John W. (Debra Jo) Graff, Michigan City, Barbara (Alan) Kolodiej of Michigan City and Joseph (Dorene) Graff of Bremen, IN;  11 Grandchildren, Maria, John, and Stephen Szczepaniak, Mark, Linda & Katie Graff, Mary Ellen, Angela and Elizabeth Kolodiej, William and Joey Graff; Sister, Marie Levendowski of Michigan City.

Mr. Graff was a life member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, St. Joseph Young Men's Society, Polish National Alliance.  He played the accordion, enjoyed Polka music, Polka dancing having been a member of the Polonia Club Polka dancers.  Mr. Graff was a retired farmer who enjoyed woodworking, and was an expert craftsman building many pieces of furniture and wood toys for his children and grandchildren.  He was a devoted husband, loving father and affectionate grandfather.

Edward Schultz

Edward C. Schultz, 85, Michigan City, IN, formerly of Mishawaka, IN passed away  Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 12:50 a.m. in St. Anthony Memorial.

He was born September 19, 1924 in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Carl and Ann (Sopko) Schultz.  On November 25, 1944 in Michigan City, IN he married    Dorothy M. Coursel who preceded him on February 14, 1975.

Surviving are a daughter, Sharon (Dale) Hille of North Liberty, IN;  2 sisters, Elizabeth Schultz of Michigan City, IN, and Martha Aivaz of Royel Grande, CA;  2 grandsons, David Hille of Bremen, IN, and Joseph Hille of North Liberty, IN;  and 3 great-grandchildren, Spencer, Erica, and Edward J. Hille.

He was preceded in death by  2 sisters, Helen Lang and Mary C. Johnson.

He retired as a mechanic for Standard Oil and enjoyed working on cars.

Henry Carmona

Henry G. Carmona, 97, West Lafayette, Indiana, formerly of Michigan City, IN passed away Saturday, July 17, 2010 at 5:22 p.m. in St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.

He was born May 23, 1913 in Mexico City, Mexico to  the late Gonzalo and Maria (Gutierrez) Carmona.  On October 9, 1947 in South Bend, IN he married Martha Barrios who preceded him in death on April 21, 1992.

Surviving are 2 daughters, Anita (Warren) Foltz of West Lafayette, IN, and Linda (Michael) Carmona-Bresnan of Wellington, FL; Son, Victor (Mary Jo) Carmona of Columbus, OH; 12 grandchildren and18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lydia Foster.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II having served with the 3rd Army, 2nd Calvary. He retired as a Chef from Maxine and Heinies. He also worked at the Spalding Hotel, Trail-Inn, and Willard's Seafood.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church,  life member of V.F.W. 2536. and an avid Chicago White Sox fan.

Betty Mowinski

Betty Mowinski

Betty Jane Mowinski, 62, Michigan City entered into God's open arms on July 8 after a courageous battle with cancer with her family at her side.

She was born August 26, 1947 in Michigan City, Indiana to Frank & Mary (Novak) Grott. On June 11, 1976 in Michigan City she married Lawrence L. Mowinski, who survives Michigan City. Also surviving are 2 Daughters, Tina Mowinski and Cheryl (Damon) Nowatzke both of Michigan City; 2 Step-daughters, Shelley Mowinski of Rolling Prairie, Elizabeth (Bill) Bartholomew of Laporte; Step-son, Chad Mowinski of Michigan City; 4 Grandchildren, Lawryn, Awstyn, Coltyn, and Jaelyn Nowatzke; Step-grandchild, Robert Bartholomew; 2 Sisters, Joanne (Roger) Bossert of Gray, TN, Margaret (Jim) Wilson of Holly Springs, NC; 12 Nieces and Nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by Sister, Gladys Coursel.

Betty Attended St. Mary's School and was a life member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was active in a wide variety of crafts and was known for making and decorating cakes for many occasions. She was an avid participant of Jazzercise but her most favorite love was her grandchildren and family who will miss her loving ways and her outgoing happy attitude toward others.

Dorothy Kvocka

Dorothy  Kvocka, 84,  Trail Creek, Indiana, went to heaven Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at 7:55 pm.

She was born October 23, 1925 in Elizabeth, Pennsylvania to Anthony  & Veronica (Trinosky) Baskitis. On September 1, 1946 in Elizabeth, Pennsylvania  she married  Fred Kvocka, who survives Trail Creek, IN.

Also surviving is a daughter Kathleen Putz and son Allen (Shirley) Kvocka, both of Michigan City.  3 Grandsons, Christopher (Danielle) Putz, Jr., Neil (Nicholle) Kvocka, both of Michigan City and Wesley (Lindsie) Kvocka, Largo, FL.  Great-Grandson, Christopher Putz, III and Great-Granddaughter, Audrihanna Kvocka, both of Michigan City. Sister, Janet Adams of Valparaiso, IN, and brother, John Baskitis of Springville, TN.  She was preceded in death by her son, US Army, Sgt. Fred Kvocka, and Sisters, Mary Ignatius, Pearl Kustron, and Catherine Baskitis.
 
She was  member of Queen of all Saint's Catholic Church, and also attended St. Stanislaus Catholic Church.  Mrs. Kvocka enjoyed vacationing, traveling, being with her family and Bingo.

Donna Novak

Donna  Novak, 70,  Michigan City, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at 8:58 am at her daughter's home.

She was born May 12, 1940 in Laporte, Indiana to Elmer & Nina (LeRoy) Miller.  On October 31, 1964 in Michigan City she  married  Melvin Novak, who survives Michigan City.  Also surviving is a daughter Brenda Novak and son, Thomas Novak, both of Michigan City; Brother Dale Miller of Michigan City.

Donna Novak

Mrs. Novak retired after 33 years as a elementary teacher in the Michigan City school system having taught at Jefferson, Pine, Springfield and for a short time at Coolspring Schools.  She enjoyed continuing friendships with many of her fellow teachers, co-workers and former students.  Mrs. Novak was also a long-time member of the Delta Kappa Gamma in Michigan City.  She loved and was loved by her family, her many valued friends and her cats.  She also loved country music, Nashville, Tennessee and the Cubs, such as they are.

There will be no visitation hours or services cremation will take place and the ashes interred privately. Arrangements are being entrusted to the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City.

Peggy Jean Ross, 76,  Laporte, Indiana formerly of Michigan City passed away Monday July 6, 2010 at 10:08 am in Fountainview Terrace Golden Living Centers, Laporte.

She was born July 21, 1933 in Higdon, AR.  On November 1, 1949 in Heber Springs, AR she married   Robert  Ross, who preceded her on April 2, 2002.

She was a member of Harvest Time Church of Christ and enjoyed gardening and crocheting.

Timothy Granzo

Timothy S. Granzo, 47,  Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2010 at 5:10 p.m. in his home.

He was born January 28, 1963 in Michigan City, Indiana to Donald & Mary Ann (Topolski) Granzo. Surviving are Step-father, George J. Porumb, Sr. of Michigan City;  4 Sisters, Kimberly (Dave) Bays of Laporte, Michele Granzo and Stacy Granzo, both of Michigan City, and  Kimberly (Jason) Fikes of Jasper, AL; Brother, George J. Porumb, Jr. of Moline, IL; Several Nieces and Nephews and Great-Nieces and Great-Nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Granzo and mother, Mary Ann Granzo Porumb.

LaVerne Sjoberg

LaVerne R. Sjoberg, 85, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 7:55 pm in St. Anthony Memorial , Michigan City.

She was born February 23, 1925 in Michigan City, to the late William & Lydia (Rabe) Markel. On February 3, 1947 in Michigan City, she married Thomas Sjoberg, who preceded her on October 23, 1996.

Surviving are Sister, Lois Staffel of Michigan City; 2 Nieces, Lynda Staffel of Michigan City, and Cheryl (James) Jackson of Laporte; 1 Great-Niece and 3 Great-Nephews, 2 Great-Great Nephews; and very dear friend, Pat Hasting of Michigan City.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, and retired after 30 years with Fannie May as a sales clerk.

Shirley A. Lisak, age 81, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away  Thursday, July 1, 2010 at  4:54 am in her home.

She was born July 12, 1928 in Michigan City, Indiana to  the late Anthony & Helena (Kieffer) Kieszkowski. On November 19, 1949 in Michigan City  she married Lucian J. "Lou" Lisak who preceded her in death on July 18, 1996.

She was preceded in death by 2 sons, John and Joseph Lisak.

She was a hairdresser who worked at Thor's and retired from the Main Event.

She was a member of Queen of all Saint's Catholic Church and the Pi Epsilon Kappa Sorority, Alpha lota Chapter.

Norman Chinski

Norman J. Chinski, 84, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Monday, June 28, 2010 at 6:55 pm in St. Anthony Memorial.

He was born March 1, 1926 in Michigan City, Indiana to  the late Walter and Stella (Chlebowski) Chinski.  In November of 1995 he married  Dolores Dyszkiewicz Wagner who survives in Michigan City.

Also surviving are a step-son, Robert E. (Leslie) Wagner, Jr. of Bloomington , IN; sister, Joan Landers of Michigan City, IN; grandson, Griffin Wagner of Bloomington, IN; great-niece, Rebecca (Robert) Turner of Michigan City, IN; and several other nieces, nephews,  great-nieces, and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine "Gerri" Chinski; and 2 brothers, Daniel and Eugene Chinski.

He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, St. Joseph Young Men's Society, DAV Chapter 23, 40 & 8 Club, and Longest active member of the American Legion Skwiat Post 451 Honor Guard, which he will be wearing his dress blue honor guard uniform.  He served with the US Army during World War. II.and was one of the first students to attend Purdue North Central at Barker Manison.  He retired from Joy Mfg. as a draftsman.

June Skibinski

June C. Skibinski, 52,  Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Friday,  June 25, 2010 at 12:12 pm in St. Anthony Memorial, Michigan City.

She was born November 1, 1957 in Michigan City, Indiana to William & Doris (Robbins) Hardesty. On December 29, 1973 in Michigan City she married Eugene J. Skibinski, Sr., who survives Michigan City.

Also surviving is her  mother, Doris Ladwig of Michigan City;  2 Sons, Eugene J. (Brandie) Skibinski, Jr. of Salem, VA, Steven Skibinski of Michigan City;  5 Grandsons, Alexander, Steven, Robert & Michael Skibinski, and  Zachary Davis; Granddaughter, Erica Skibinski;  2 Brothers, Wayne (Linda) Hardesty and Tony (Ruth) Hardesty both of Michigan City; Sister, Linda (James) Lampert of Corpus Christi, TX;  3 Step-sisters, Kay Filmore, Michelle Ladwig;  and Debbie Linn;  2 Step-brothers, Gary Ladwig and Doug Ladwig;

She has worked for over 20 years with Lakeshore Foods, as Seafood Manager  for Barney's of New Buffalo, MI.  She was the caregiver for all her family.

Lucille Selke

Lucille  E. Selke, 83, Coolspring Ave., Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 10:20 p.m. in St. Anthony Memorial, Michigan City.

She was born February 1, 1927 in LaPorte, Indiana to  the Willard Roy  & Elizabeth (Bowen) Kohler. On October 18, 1947 in Michigan City she married  Fred P. Selke, who preceded her on May 2, 2006.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, and was a former volunteer with the St. Anthony Memorial Guild.  Mrs. Selke retired from Sears, Michigan City as a sales clerk.

Danielle Katherine Krachinski, Michigan City, Indiana, was  stillborn, Tuesday, June 22, 2010 in St. Anthony Memorial.

Surviving are her parents, Jill Eirene Martin and Cary Daniel Krachinski of Michigan City, IN; Brother, Joey Barth of Michigan City, IN; Sister, Abby Barth of Michigan City, IN; maternal grandparents, Gary and  Roberta Martin of Las Vegas, NV; paternal grandparents, Daniel and Sharon Krachinski of Michigan City, IN; paternal great-grandparents, Charlotte Grecco of Michigan City, IN, Paul and Theresa Hack of New Buffalo, MI, and Bonnie Krachinski of Michigan City, IN; godparents, Sara K.
